WhitePages Raises Stakes for People Search Market By Letting Consumers Control Their Online Identity
New edit capability allows people to decide which elements of their contact information are publicly viewable or hidden
SEATTLE, WA - Responding to consumers' number one request, today WhitePages (http://www.whitepages.com) became the first major online directory in the US to allow people to edit their residential and business phone and address listings. The new capabilities are designed to put people in complete control over their online directory listing by letting them decide which elements are publicly viewable or hidden, as well as how they want people to connect with them -- via cell phone, email, text message, landline or traditional mail.
"WhitePages has been serving up the most reliable and trusted contact information online for 10 years based on the most up-to-date public sources which include telephone listings, public records and web data," said Alex Algard, CEO of WhitePages. "By empowering consumers to publish and change their contact information, not only do we advance the accuracy of our contact database, but we advance the degree of confidence that people can find each other and connect online."
WhitePages has always been dedicated to being the most accurate source for finding and connecting with people, providing free access to contact information for over 200 million US adults. In July the company announced the launch of its "Add Your Listing" feature, which allows visitors to create their own WhitePages listing with their cell phone or email address with safeguards in place to control privacy. To date, over one million people have added their listing, making it much easier to connect with friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors using their designated method of contact.
The new edit capability is the latest step in WhitePages' commitment to leading the people search market by building the Web's only "one-stop" destination for accurate and accessible contact information. Later this year the company will offer consumers the ability to build out their online identity by adding their social media profiles to their WhitePages listings. WhitePages' long-term goal is to provide consumers with the most relevant online contact database through a combination of consumer sourced information and the most up-to-date public sources, giving people complete control over every aspect of their data to help them maintain and secure their identity.
How It Works
Consumers and business professionals can take advantage of the new features by visiting www.whitepages.com. To edit an existing listing, customers simply search for their name and location and then click the "Is this you? Edit" flag next to their name on the listing page. To create a new residential or work contact listing, visitors select the "Add Your Listing" tab. From there, they will be asked to sign in or join WhitePages if they are not yet members.
As the largest and most trusted online directory, WhitePages offers a suite of free mobile and Internet services that makes it easy for people to find and immediately connect with anyone in the U.S. Only WhitePages offers one-click access to more than 200 million adults and powers more than 2 billion searches on over 1,300 partner sites including, AOL, United States Postal Service, and MSN.
